Desiree Meyer was Verona’s high-scorer, with four three-pointers to her credit.

Before they took to the gym at Verona High School yesterday afternoon, the VHS and Caldwell girls basketball teams had met twice this season, earning a win for each in fairly even-handed games. Yesterday, however, it was all Verona for almost all of the game. The score was 29-4 Verona at halftime, and it ended at a 43-25 Verona win after a third-period rally by Caldwell.

Kylee Gallagher’s tenacity resulted in seven rebounds.

Desiree Meyer powered Verona with four three-pointers, but she was hardly the only Verona player with long-distance scoring: Brianna Horton had three three-pointers and Cecilia “CC” Courter had two. Kylee Gallagher and Cayla Okafor let almost nothing escape their grasp in the paints, grabbing seven rebounds apiece. Meyer currently leads Verona in three-pointers, with 41.

Verona is now 12-6 overall and 10-5 in conference. The girls travel to Nutley on Saturday for a 2 p.m. start.
