There are only two seniors on this year’s Verona High School boys basketball team, but last night was their moment to shine even a bit more than they usually do on the court. Joe Zecchino, the team’s high scorer this season, and Andrew Siegelin, the top rebounder, were both recognized on Senior Night before the game against West Essex.

Verona led that game at the half by one point, but would finish with a 55-41 loss in what has been a rebuilding year for the team. Zecchino, who plays guard, added 18 points to his scoring, bringing his total this season to a career high 328 points. The 6’6″ Siegelin, who leads Verona in rebounds, had 11 last night for a season total of 109. Joey Fresco, a junior in his first year on the varsity team, was the second highest scorer last night with 11, bringing his season total to 59.

The loss drops the boys team to 6 wins and 11 losses. They host Newark Collegiate at VHS on Saturday, February 3, for an 11 a.m. game.
