The youth at the First Presbyterian Church of Verona, located at 10 Fairview Avenue, will celebrate the “Souper Bowl” again this year by collecting cans of soup (and other canned goods) as well as and monetary donations, at the end of the 10:15 a.m. service on Sunday, February 4.
The Souper Bowl of Caring is a national youth movement working to fight hunger and poverty in local communities around the time of the Super Bowl. The organization has been around since 1990 and The First Presbyterian Church of Verona has been actively participating for over a decade. A simple $1 and a can of soup can make a huge impact in the community. All canned goods will be donated to the Verona Food Pantry at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit and monetary donations will go to the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Essex County, which provides emergency shelter as well as three meals a day to homeless families.
The group hopes to top last year’s collection 124 cans of soup and donations over $200 to IHN.
