Born in Newark and raised in Glen Ridge, Mr. Koes lived in Bloomfield before moving to Verona 30 years ago.
He was a graduate of Glen Ridge High School and then Montclair State University with a bachelor of science degree.
Mr. Koes was a manager for North Center Drugs in Bloomfield for 40 years until they closed two years ago and then he worked for Terry Drugs in Bloomfield.

He was past-president of the North Center Businessman’s Association, coach for the Verona Basketball and Baseball/Softball Leagues, member of OLL Men’s Basketball team and Our Lady of the Lake Parish. He was also an avid runner and walker – all over town.

Mr. Koes was predeceased by his parents, John Koes and Josephine Koes (nee Pattwell) and brother, John Koes.
He is survived by his beloved wife Leslie Koes (nee Meehan), his loving children, Melissa Koes of Verona, Lindsay DelGigante and her husband, Jesse of the United Kingdom, Jillian Koes of Verona and Andrew Koes and his partner, Lisa Shriber of Roseland, and cherished grandchildren, Jack and Greer DelGigante.

Richie loved nothing more than to be with his family and friends. He had an infectious laugh and heart of gold. His most proud accomplishment during his life was raising his children and watching his grandchildren grow. He gave everything he had to his children and never missed an opportunity to be with each of his children and quickly took to each of their hobbies, as if his own. He will be missed beyond words.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Verona Rescue Squad, 12 Church Street, Verona, NJ 07044 would be appreciated.
