The Verona High School girls winter track team took second place in a very competitive field of 15 teams at the SEC Championships Saturday, December 23, at Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island. This year’s program included two new events, the novice sprint medley and novice distance medley, both of which were won by Verona athletes.
On the boys’ side, junior Frankie Lavery came home with a medal in the mile and sophomore Owen Fogarty won the pole vault for the Liberty Division, clearing 12 feet. The 4×400 team of Evan Huaman, Bryan McKeen, David Navarro and Vincent Hogan placed fourth and senior Aydin Sidali placed seventh overall in shot put.
