Cianna Winkler’s coat drive has done it again. As the snow was falling on Saturday, Winkler and her brother and father filled the family’s trucks with about 40 huge black lawn bags of coats collected during her sixth annual coat drive and dropped them off at the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair.
It was a well-timed delivery: Winkler, a Verona High School senior, says she heard from the pantry that it had had very few coats on hand. In addition to coat drives that had delivered nearly 5,000 coats to people in need in previous need, Winkler is very involved in community service and has received the Presidential Volunteerism Award at the Gold level every year from 2013 to 2017. This past August, Winkler was crowned the 2017-18 National United Miss in Atlantic City and was Miss New Jersey High School America 2017. She has also been a Miss America Outstanding Teen for the past three years.
“Thank you to all who donated,” Winkler said on Saturday. “And a big thank you to my drop off points–Jazzercise of Verona, the Verona Community Center and First Presbyterian Church. We filled the drop-off hall with coats to help keep those in need warm.”
