On Sunday, December 10, at 10:15 a.m. the Chancel Choir at First Presbyterian Church under the direction of Diane Battersby will present Joseph Martin’s cantata “The Song Heard ‘Round The World.”

“The Song Heard ‘Round The World” is an inspirational musical journey that celebrates the unity we have in the gospel of Christ through scripture, narration, and international carols and folk songs. With sections for Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany, the anticipation, incarnation, and proclamation of Christ’s birth is presented. Each movement is from a different nation, filling the work with a tapestry of musical diversity. Guest artists Max Morden, trumpet, Amanda Morden, flute, and Alex Karpinski, narrator, will accompany the Chancel Choir. The Youth Choirs will join in with pageantry and song.

Composer Joseph M. Martin writes these words:

“We once again travel together the well-worn path to Bethlehem. As in ancient times, the air is still cluttered with a cacophony of hostile voices, the road jumbled with political dispute and philosophical quarrels. The inns are full and bursting with frustrated pilgrims desperately seeking sanctuary, and the world’s earnest prayers for peace are overwhelmed by calls to violence. Then breaking through the night comes a still small voice. It breathes stillness into the shadows and falls tenderly upon the wounded and weary. Rising like a prayer, a fresh new song goes forth with healing for the nations…the tragedy of war becomes a tapestry of peace and the dissonance of hate becomes divine harmony. Softly begins the music of miracles. Christ is born! Glory to God in the highest! Live in heavenly peace!

The church is located at 10 Fairview Avenue and parking can be found in the lot behind the church. There will be light refreshments served after the service.
