Hearts of Hope is a community service project that has involved students at Brookdale, F.N. Brown and Verona High School for many years. They paint ceramic hearts with messages of healing and support that are donated to people in need of a boost. Adults can participate in Hearts of Hope as well, however, through events like the one that is taking place at Calandra’s Italian Village tonight, Monday, July, 17.
Alice Nagy, a Verona resident who is president of the local Hearts of Hope chapter, has organized a heart-painting event at Calandra’s to make hearts for Autism Speaks, an autism advocacy non-profit. Tonight’s session is sponsored by the Santiago Abut Foundation, a Summit-based group that was created after the death of a Summit middle school student in 2008.
The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the deli area at Calandra’s, which is located at 234 Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell.
