Some of the Sunday Supper Team: Zack Winkler, Wayne Winkler, Cianna Winkler and Eileen Kuhn.

Beverly, Wayne, Cianna and Zach Winkler have been recognized for their volunteer efforts by Points of Light, a nonprofit founded by former President George H.W. Bush. In 1989, President Bush created a daily Point of Light award to recognize people for volunteering in their communities. Points of Light recently bestowed its 6000th Daily Point of Light Award; the Winklers were awardee 5,994.

Last year, the family and family friend Eileen Kuhn created a hot meal program at Verona’s First Presbyterian Church. The Sunday Supper program provides meals–cooked by a team of volunteers that includes parishioners and Verona High School students–to those in need on the first Sunday of every month. Recipients are either in need financially or home bound and would not eat on Sunday without this assistance. The generous portions provide two meals for many.

Points of Light has the full story on the Winklers on its website. You can read it here.
