Verona Lions eyeglassesThis week Mayor Kevin Ryan congratulated the Verona Lions on their renewal of their Eyeglass Collection program. The Lions since 1951 have been recycling used eyeglasses. The Lions renewed their commitment by installing a new drop-off box at the Verona Community Center. Myron Spektor, Verona Lions President, Bill Abele Verona Lions President Elect and Mike Petti project leader joined Mayor Ryan in celebrating the newly refurbished drop box.

“Everyone can help promote this valuable community service”, Mike Petti said during this kickoff event.

You may not know that the Lions collected over 2,000 pairs of glasses last year thanks to the generosity of Verona residents. Donated glasses are sent to the NJ School for the Blind where they are cleaned, refurbished, sorted and repackaged. Recycled glasses are distributed to people in need in low- and middle-income communities where they will have the greatest impact.

Donate glasses and change someone’s life. Imagine if you could help a child read. An adult succeed in his job. A senior maintain her independence. The Verona Lions is one of many clubs throughout the state who have recycled eyeglass programs. Drop your used eyeglasses in the new Yellow Lions Eyeglass collection box in front of the Verona Community center.
