I’ve never before felt compelled to write an opinion piece. However, as an election cycle nears it is important that awareness of our elected leaders is raised and the successful efforts to eliminate much of the wasteful spending within all levels of Verona government be acknowleged. Mayor Kevin Ryan and Deputy Mayor Michael Nochimson have not waivered from their campaign promises. Their leadership most noticeably evidenced by no municipal tax increases in Verona over the last three years.
Remarkably, over this same period, Verona residents have experienced improvements to municipal services; from additional fields for our children, to recycling improvements, to enhanced programs for our seniors. Further, the improving communications between the Town Council, Board of Education and other service units promises additional opportunities for bettering Verona. As working parents with children, these improvements are much valued by our family and an encouraging sign that we are getting tangible value from our tax dollars.
In this upcoming election for Verona Town Council both Mayor Kevin Ryan & candidate Jack McEvoy are poised to continue to promote fiscal transparency and community cooperation while seeking synergies that drive both cost savings and enhancements to services. The decisions of this election are important to strengthening the fabric of our community. Let’s continue to listen to one another and support the leadership working to build on this momentum. Verona can be the NJ standard for a well run, fiscally responsible community.
