1:59 AM: Officer Brian McMahon conducted a motor vehicle stop on Mt. Prospect Avenue for an observed violation. While checking the operators credentials, a warrant was found from the Mountainside Municipal Court. The operator, Joie Tortorello of Garwood, was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. While checking the identity of the passenger, warrants were found from the Garwood and Westfield municipal courts. The passenger, Salvatore Tortorello of Farmingdale, was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. After processing both were released with new court dates.
9:23 AM: Officer Erin McGarrity took a report of a suspicious phone call from a Cypress Avenue resident. The resident reported receiving a call from a male asking to speak with another person who resides in the home. The second person was not familiar with the caller. The resident was advised to contact police headquarters if he receives any additional calls.
9:01 PM: Officer Brian McMahon took a report of property damage on Bloomfield Avenue. The officer discovered a decorative light pole that had been damaged. Value of the damage is unknown at this time.
February 4, 2017
1:51 PM: Officer Ed Ruff took a report of found property from a Claridge Drive resident. The resident reported finding a wallet in a parking lot on Bloomfield Avenue. The owner of the wallet was contacted and responded to retrieve his property. The owner reported that he had lost his wallet in Montville and that there was cash in the wallet when he lost it. The wallet only contained credit cards and personal identification when found. The owner had already made a report with the Montville Police.
5:15 PM: Officer Justin Nielsen took a report of lost property from a Malvern Place resident. The resident reported that she lost her New Jersey driver’s license. She was provided with identity theft information.

4:09 PM: Officer Steve Young took a report of a fraud from a Forest Avenue resident. The resident reported receiving several notifications regarding accounts that were denied due to insufficient information. The resident reported that she has not applied for any of these accounts. She was provided with identity theft information and was advised to contact the credit reporting agencies.
February 7, 2017
2:04 PM: Officer Stephanie Colon took a report of a fraud at a Pompton Avenue business. An employee reported that the owners email account had been hacked and a fraudulent email had been sent regarding wiring money to a bank account. All company email passwords have been changed. The employee was advised to contact police headquarters if any other incidents occur.
3:19 PM: Officer Giovanni Desomma took a report from a Hillcrest Terrace resident. The resident reported that she had received mail from the IRS and that the envelope was open when she received it. The resident was concerned as the letter contained personal information. She was provided with identity theft information.
6:33 PM: Officer Giovanni Desomma took a report of a fraud from a Howell Drive resident. The resident reported that his PayPal and Amazon accounts had been hacked and money was withdrawn from his PayPal Account. The resident had been in contact with both companies and advised them of the incident. He was provided with identity theft information.

10:29 AM: Officer Stephanie Colon took a report of harassing phone calls at a Bloomfield Avenue business. The business owner reported receiving several harassing phone calls from an unknown male regarding a mutual friend. The business owner was advised to contact police headquarters if he receives any additional calls.
4:03 PM: Officer Alyssa Kirby responded along with the Verona Rescue Squad to a report of a person who fell on Bloomfield Avenue. After treatment for facial injuries, the victim refused transportation to the hospital.

9:26 AM: Officer Michael Barone took a report of property damage from a Pine Street resident. The resident reported that a tree fell in his yard causing damage to a fence, deck and garage. Value of damage is unknown at this time.
