On Saturday, January 11, over 30 fourth and fifth graders participated in the annual Junior Woman’s Club of Verona Spelling Bee competition held at F.N. Brown Elementary School. The Juniors thanked all the children who participated and congratulated the winners: Owen Chanana of Brookdale, third place; Christopher Sluck of H.B. Whitehorne, second place; and F.N. Brown student Stephen Gaffney, who won first place.
The Juniors also thanked the judges: Cheryl Ashley, director of the Verona Public Library; Corisa Walker, library media specialist at F.N. Brown and Brookdale schools; and Director of Curriculum Charles Miller, who kindly volunteered their time for the morning. Diana Weeks and Joanna Rybak organized the event for the Verona Juniors and Verona Juniors President Erika Grothues announced the words.
