The Verona Hillbillies are on a tear at the moment. After losing two straight games to Bloomfield and West Essex at the start of the season, the Hillbillies have gone on a four-game winning streak that includes Thursday’s 88-62 beatdown of Livingston.
Right from the tip, Verona made it clear what their game plan was going to be last night. Rebound, outlet and run. This up-tempo mentality was due to Livingston’s press defense throughout the game. Verona had no trouble in breaking the press, which allowed for easy transition buckets. All of Verona’s 88 points came from within the 3-point line or on the foul line as they did not make one 3-pointer. Many of the 88 were routine layups on fast breaks.
Travis Jocelyn led Verona in points, pouring in 30 including one emphatic two-hand dunk in the third quarter. Matt Zaccone also had 19 points in the win.
Verona looks unstoppable in their past four games, beating their opponents by a combined 110 points. The Hillbillies look to keep up this hot streak at Millburn High School at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 10 against the Millers.
