The Verona High School footbal team kicked its first game on its new home field off with a bang: Quarterback Zack Zaccone took the ball 58 yards down Thomas J. Sellitto Field for a touchdown. Zaccone also scored on an 11-yard run in the third quarter.

Unfortunately for the Hillbillies, the Madison High School Dodgers largely ruled the rest of the afternoon, with its Matt Boyd and Matthew O’Donnell getting two TDs apiece. The final score was Madison 36, Verona 15.

Verona’s record now stands at 0-2 after a season-opening loss to Hoboken. The Hillbillies host the Cedar Grove Panthers this Friday night under the lights at the new field. Game time is 7 p.m.
