The Friends of the Verona Public Library, in a continuation of the Visiting Authors and Artists Series, is pleased to present a multi-faceted program remembering some of the images of the fateful day of 9/11, along with memories from some of those who were involved at the attack sites.
Beginning September 1, thru October 1, the photography of the aftermath of 9/11, as shot by Bloomfield photographer Veronica L. Yankowski, will be exhibited in the gallery of the Jack Foley room in the lower level of the Verona Library.
Yankowski is an international award-winning photographer specializing in documentary style, event photography and soulful portraits. Her photographs are registered with the 9/11 National Memorial and Museum.
The commemoration, to be held on 9/11, will include comments by Yankowski on her photographs. Verona resident Gary Ellenbogen, who was in the Pentagon on 9/11/01, will also share his thoughts of that day.
“This September 11th artist series depicts the day as remembered by most. The images are tastefully shown from the photographer’s lens and are appropriate for all ages. It is very important to keep the memories alive as we commemorate the fifteenth anniversary, of 9/11,” said Jodi Cappello, vice president of the Friends of Verona Library. “There already is a generation, born just before or since 2001, that are not fully aware of the tragedy and sacrifices made by those who were involved.”
The event will be held in the Jack Foley room at the Verona Library on Sunday, September 11, from 3 to 4PM. This is a free event.
