Verona’s Memorial Day parade will step off from Everett Field at 10 a.m. on Monday morning, May 30, and follow its usual route west on Bloomfield Avenue to the center of town. The ceremony will be held in front of the steps of Town Hall. Any civic groups interested in participating may contact Sue Neale, in Town Hall at 973-857-4770 or email her at [email protected].
As part of the Memorial Day observance, organizers recite the names of the 44 Verona residents who have died in service to their country, from the Civil War to the Vietnam War. Verona resident Rob Caruso has been researching the lives of these men for several years for a website he calls “Verona Heroes”. Last year, he succeeded in having the town place commemorative signs at the street corner closest to where each man lived before entering the service. You can consult this map for the location of each sign.
Remember that Verona’s public schools will be closed on Friday, May 27. The school district did not use all of its allotted snow days this year.
