VHS-VocalMusic2Verona High School’s vocal and instrumental musicians will perform their annual Spring Concert on Wednesday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m.
The VHS Concert Band will perform a commissioned piece, “Organic Matters” by David Gillingham, which the band debuted in April to a standing ovation at Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. Other performances include “Someone to Watch Over Me;” “Americans We” by Henry Fillmore; “Ye Banks and Braes,” a traditional Scottish song by Percy Grainger; Shostakovich’s “Galop;” and “Crown Imperial” by William Walton.

The VHS Concert Choir will present a range of songs in several languages, including “Je le vous dire” by Renaissance composer Pierre Certon. The performance also will feature “Due Pupille Amabili” by Mozart, a classical chamber piece about the beautiful eyes of a new love, which will feature three student clarinet players as well. Finally, the student-chosen closer will be “Seasons of Love” from the populare musical Rent. The concert will also feature performances by the Jazz Vocal Ensemble.
The VHS music program is also hosting its annual Grand Super 50/50 drawing, which is $20/entry for a possible $10,000 prize if all entries are sold. Please contact [email protected] for more information on the 50/50 drawing. Deadline for purchase is May 23; the drawing will be held at the concert on May 25.

The Verona High School musicians are directed by Erik Lynch, VHS Concert Band; Claire Ma, VHS Concert Choir; and Judy Szybist, Jazz Vocal Ensemble.
The concert will be held in the Verona High School auditorium, 151 Fairview Avenue. Admission is free.
