Herb MixedThe Montclair Historical Society’s Annual Herb Sale returns to the Crane House and Historic YWCA (110 Orange Road) on May 12, 13, and 14, where you can select some unique, organic herbs and heirloom vegetables for your garden. The sale is open Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 pm or until the MHS sells out. To guarantee you get the herbs you want, use the preorder form. Pre-orders must be picked up on the first sale day, Thursday, before 8 p.m.

The plants are all organic, quality herbs. We have many favorites, including several varieties of basil, parley, mint, rosemary, chives, sage, lavender, cilantro, and thyme, many of which you cannot find in local garden centers. In addition, we have less well-known or less-often grown herbs including garlic, stevia, horseradish, mesclun greens, patchouli, savory, lovage, and curry. At the sale, speak with us about ways you can use these new herbs.

This year, for the first time, we are selling hops plants for home brewers. This year we are also offering offer a selection of heirloom or old world vegetables, most of which are unavailable in garden centers. We have heirloom tomatoes, including Heirloom Rose, Heirloom Cherokee, and Old World San Marzano Redorta, a plum tomato. Pair the tomatoes with and Old World eggplant (Rotunda Bianca, Viloetta Lunga, or Gitano), fry up a Frigitello or Quadrotto d’Asti Rosso pepper, or experiment with our three zucchini varieties, Cucuzzi-Zuchetta, Lungo Bianco de Sicilia, or Striato d’Italia.

All proceeds from the sale support the ongoing preservation and educational efforts of the Montclair Historical Society, an independent not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving, sharing, and educating others about Montclair’s history since 1965. For additional information, please visit the MHS website or contact the Montclair Historical Society at 973-
