Police Nab Burglary Suspect

Vaughn FrontOn Wednesday March 9, 2016 at approximately 8:30 p.m, Richard Vaughn, 50, of Newark was arrested at his home on charges stemming from two Pompton Avenue burglaries. The first burglary occurred on Thursday January, 29 2016, and the second occurred on Saturday February 28, 2016.

Once Vaughn was identified as a suspect, search warrants were obtained for his residence. Evidence of the Verona burglaries, along with evidence of burglaries that occurred in another Essex County town was recovered inside his home.

Vaughn has 36 felony convictions, the majority which are for burglary and theft related crimes. He was arrested once before in Verona for theft and receiving stolen property in February of 2001.

Vaughn was remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000.00 bail.

Any individual named in law enforcement reports is presumed innocent until a decision is rendered by the courts.
