The championship for the North 1 Group 1 basketball title will be played on Tuesday, March 8, and the game pits the Verona High School boys varsity team against that of Paterson Charter School.

VHS, which was the #4 seed, advanced to finals with a 60-41 round 1 win over #14 Saddle Brook last Monday and a 58-51 nail-biter over #5 Palisades Park on Wednesday, when Verona’s Travis Jocelyn tied regulation play at the buzzer. Verona then rolled over Park Ridge, the tournament’s #1 seed, 48-31 in the semi-finals on Friday.

Paterson Charter School is the #2 seed. It opened with a 69-34 win over New Milford, and had its own 47-46 nail-biter in its win over Hasbrouck Heights. It then defeated Cresskill 59-54 in the semi-finals.

Game time is 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Paterson Charter School is located at 276 Wabash Avenue in Paterson. Parking is tight at the school (you may also be able to park in the Farmer’s Market lot on East Railway Avenue), so VHS is trying to ascertain whether is should schedule a student bus.
