Take a good look at the drop box in the vestibule at Town Hall: It could be on its way to becoming a dinosaur.
On Monday, Verona CFO Matt Laracy unveiled the next step in the modernization of the town’s financial record-keeping, a way to pay your tax and water utility bills online.
You simply go to the Town’s website, and click on the maroon “Online Payments” button at the top of the left column. It takes you to a secure site, where you can search for your property by name, address, block, lot or tax identifier. Once you’ve brought up your account–separated into Taxes and Utilities tabs–you click on “Make a Payment” to pay by credit or debit card, or checking account. The payment system that Verona is using is the same as the systems that have been in place in Montclair and Caldwell. West Orange also has online bill payments, but uses a different process.
If you still want to pay your taxes in person, you can continue to do so in Town Hall. But Laracy, who has put Verona on modern accounting and payroll software, has told the Town Council that he hopes to have a kiosk there to handle in-person payments.
