Verona runs on volunteers: Its many volunteer organizations look after everything from our safety to our schools, our scouts and our sports. And many of these groups are looking for more volunteers.
On Tuesday, December 1, there will be a Verona’s Volunteers open house at the Verona Community Center Ballroom, so residents can explore the many volunteer possibilities in town. The event, which takes place from 7 to 9 p.m., is sponsored by the Township of Verona and Sustainable Verona, a relatively new group that focuses on winning grants to improve the environment in Verona.

The groups that have already signed up to participate include Boy Scouts of America Pack 32, the Brookdale SCA, CASA of Essex County, C.H.I.L.D. (Children Having Individual Learning Differences), Competitive Cheering, F.N. Brown SCA, Forest Ave. SCA, Friends of the Verona Public Library, Girl Scouts of America, HBW SCA, Hilltop Conservancy, Junior Woman’s Club, Juniorettes, Knights of Columbus Verona & Cedar Grove, Landmarks Preservation Commission, Laning SCA, Shade Tree Commission, Sustainable Verona, UNICO, Verona Baseball Softball League, Verona Environmental Commission, Verona Fire Department, Verona Foundation for Educational Excellence (VFEE), Verona Junior Wrestling, Verona Lions Club, Verona Music Parents Association, Verona Park Conservancy, Verona Rescue Squad, Verona United Soccer, Verona Voices, Verona Woman’s Club, VHS Alumni Association, VHS SCA, VHS Sports Boosters and the Verona Municipal Alliance Committee (VMAC).
Each of the groups will have a table in the VCC ballroom so that interested residents can meet face to face with members of each organization and discuss membership opportunities.
The call for volunteers resonates with Justin Nielsen, a 12-year member of the Verona Rescue Squad. “If you or any one you know is interested in working in the medical, or emergency services field the Verona Rescue Squad is a great place to start,” he says. “It provides a great foundation to build rescue oriented skills and experiences, all while while giving back to the community as a volunteer.”
The Verona Community Center Ballroom is located at 880 Bloomfield Ave. If your organization has not already been contacted and you would like to participate, please email Steven Neale at [email protected] or 973-857-4830.
