Last weekend, the Verona High School football team captured another conference championship with a thrilling 22-20 win over Cedar Grove. This weekend kicks off the Section 1 Group 1 football playoffs and the No. 4-ranked Hillbillies will host Hasbrouck Heights on Saturday at 1 p.m. on the lower field.
The Aviators are ranked No. 5 in Group 1, with a 7-2 record on the season. The Verona High School team is undefeated in regular season play for the second year in a row, and NJ.com has the Hillbillies picked to come out on top in the playoffs again. Verona defeated Cresskill last year for the title in a game at MetLife Stadium. Cresskill is ranked No. 8 this year, and has the opening game against No. 1 Park Ridge on Friday night.
