There was an attempted break in at a house on Woodland Avenue in the early hours of Wednesday morning, and law enforcement sources think it might have been the work of the same people who broke into a Grove Avenue senior citizen’s house on May 10.
The incident on Woodland occurred at 3 a.m. Wednesday and it is believed that the would-be criminals changed their mind once they realized that the home was occupied. No one was injured. In the Grove break in, the homeowner was tied up and her elbow was broken.
Law enforcement sources say both incidents seem strongly related to break ins in Hillside, Maplewood and South Orange. “They are going for houses with no lights on and no cars in the driveway,” the source said.
But if you are going to leave your car in your driveway to signal your presence, be sure it is locked. Somebody got into two cars in the Afterglow section the other day that had been left open. And don’t leave the valet key in your car.
… And especially don’t leave your garage door opener in your unlocked car if your garage is attached to the house!
