MyVeronaNJ-Police-SlideA Verona senior citizen had her arm broken during a home invasion late Sunday night.

According to Verona Police Chief Doug Huber, the police got an anonymous call and responded to a Grove Avenue house at 11:40 p.m. They found the senior citizen tied up and upset, and transported her to the hospital. Family members, who ask that the victim and her address not be disclosed, said she was found to have a broken arm.

Verona Police Department detectives and the Essex County Crime Scene Investigation unit searched the house last night and found no sign of forced entry, but Huber cautioned that the investigation is still ongoing. Huber said the police have not yet been able to interview the victim, and do not know how many people were involved or whether anything was stolen.

Huber said that, while there have been several burglaries lately, there has not been a home invasion in Verona “in many years”. He said that the department is looking into all burglaries and similar events in Verona and in neighboring towns.

If you have a tip, please call the Verona Police Department at 973-239-5000.

  1. Maybe if the police weren’t concernd with the high school kids drinking beer and smoking pot they could actually do there job and catch a gosh darn criminal. Police are over paid ” hall monitors ” that patrol the Ave to write seat belt tickets.

  2. Underage drinking and illegal drugs are most certainly things for the police to focus on, Joe McNally. The first has led to several thousand dollars of property damage in Verona, hospitalizations, and accidents. The pot now being distributed in town has a far higher potency than pot had in the past, and drug experts said at a presentation in town in March that there is a much clearer link between its use and the use of street drugs like heroin and cocaine, both of which have killed young people in Verona, by the way.

As for the home invasion, the crime occurred at 11:40 p.m. on Sunday night. We are less than 24 hours from that now. The police are doing their job.
