Holy Week At First Presbyterian

MyVeronaNJ-Holy-Week-SlideshowThe First Presbyterian Church of Verona, located at 10 Fairview Avenue, is hosting a wide range events for Holy Week and beyond.

Sunday, March 29: Palm Sunday services will be led by the Rev. Ed Clydsdale at 10:15 a.m. A prelude will be performed by Sharyn Battersby and the children will lead the Palm Sunday procession. The Senior Choir will be singing a special anthem to celebrate.

Tuesday, March 31: The church thrift shop, located in the lower level of the church, will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enter the shop through the door by the parking lot.

Thursday, April 2 at 6 p.m.: The church will host a Maundy Thursday supper and service. Supper will consist of soup and salad. Attendees are encouraged to bring a simple soup of their choice that can feed a dozen or more people. Please call the church at 973-239-3561 to make a reservation. Maundy Thursday service will be led by the Rev. Paul Boger and will immediately follow the supper.

Friday, April 3: Children’s Good Friday Workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All children, Pre-K to fifth grade, are invited to join for a fun time of baking, crafting, music, lunch, God Time and the Easter Egg Hunt Extravaganza. Cost to participate is $10 per child ($25 family max) and registration is required. Please make checks payable to First Presbyterian Church of Verona with “Good Friday Program” in the check memo and send them to the church attn: Christian Ed. Children must register by March 30 to participate.

Friday, April 3: There will be a solemn Good Friday service in the Sanctuary at noon. The service, led by the Reverend Doctor Julia Dawson will last approximately a half an hour.

Saturday, April 4: The church thrift shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Most items for Easter will be on sale for 50% off.

Sunday, April 5: The 10:15 a.m. service will be led by Rev. Bob Pryor. The youth choir will be singing songs of praise accompanied by pianist, Patrick Kim and guitarists Charles Heyer and Eric Burgos. The Senior Choir will be under the direction of Sharyn Battersby who will also be performing a prelude for Easter and concluding the service with the musical piece, “A Fanfare For Easter.”

Sunday, April 12: The 10:15 service will be led by guest speaker, Beth Shorten who will be preaching “Letting Go; Moving Forward.”

Childcare is always available during worship service and immediately following all services there are light refreshments available in the church’s Chamberlain Hall.
