UPDATE: The workshop has been postponed because of the snow day. We’ll let you know as soon as it is rescheduled.
On Thursday, March 5, there is going to be a workshop to help parents help their children with social interactions. It’s called The Art of Social Language and it is being sponsored by C.H.I.L.D., Children Having Individual Learning Differences, which provides support to Verona children facing learning challenges.
What is social thinking? It is what we do when we interact with people. We think about them, and how we think about people affects how we behave, which in turn affects how others respond to us, which in turn affects our own emotions.
Is your child experiencing social challenges:
- Poor eye contact
- Limited ability to interpret facial expressions
- Difficulty following a group plan
- Difficulty in understanding intentions of others
- Interrupting or calling out in class
- Unable to use or interpret body language
Come to an interactive workshop where you will sample video modeling, learn about current trends in social language, practice user-friendly catch phrases to help children think of others and explore CDs, DVDs, apps and games to help toddlers to teens improve social language skills.
The program will be held in the Media Center at H.B. Whitehorne, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. It is free.
