This Thursday, February 26, the Verona High School Concert Band, under the direction of Erik Lynch, will be performing at the Mid-Atlantic Honors Wind Band Festival in Nicholas Music Center at Rutgers University in New Brunswick.

VHS is one of six schools from northeastern New Jersey to be selected for this event. With 619 students in total, it is significantly smaller than the other schools that are participating in the festival which consist of a few thousand students. While the instrumental music programs of other schools are typically divided into multiple bands with a select “Wind Ensemble” which attends more prestigious events such as this, Verona is the only school to bring each and every member of their program. Furthermore, the VHS music program is no stranger to Rutgers, having been consistently selected to perform at their State Gala Concert since 2011.

The festival is to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. and the VHS band is slated to perform first. The other schools participating include Randolph, South Brunswick, J.P. Stevens, Bridgewater-Raritan and Edison. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for senior citizens and $5 for students.
