David Bovich, Kyle Kazanfer and Larry Studwell (l-r, above) were recognized for completing the requirements of Eagle Scout with a Court of Honor ceremony at Notre Dame Church in North Caldwell on Saturday, December 27.
For his Eagle project, Bovich, a St. Peter’s Prep senior who is the son of Mary and Larry Bovich, created a food pantry that has been serving more than 65 families and individuals. Bovich was accompanied at the Court of Honor ceremony by his brothers Lawrence and Mark, both of whom are also Eagle Scouts. Lawrence Bovich is an ensign finishing up flight school in Florida, while Mark is a midshipman in the University of Pennsylvania’s Navy ROTC battalion.
Kazanfer, a Verona High School senior, is the son of Kari and Al Kazanfer. For his Eagle project, he renovated a storage room at St. Catherine of Siena Church so that it could be used by 40 different ministries supported by the church. A member of the youth group at St. Catherine, Kazanfer is the editor of the Verona High School Fairviewer and a member of the Verona Rescue Squad. He started in scouting with Pack 5 in first grade.
Larry Studwell, also a VHS senior, is the son of Joy and Lary Studwell. He built a vegetable garden at the Community Church of Cedar Grove to help it supply Toni’s Kitchen in Montclair with fresh vegetables. Even though the garden got a late start for the growing season, it supplied more than 130 pounds of vegetables to the soup kitchen. Studwell, who hopes to major in computer engineering in college, is an adult leader with Troop 2 Verona and has been part of the VHS football and track teams.
So proud of these young men!
