The Star Ledger is out with its honors for the fall tennis season, and there are several of them for several members of the Verona High School girls tennis team.

Verona finished as the champion of the Super Essex Conference’s Liberty division, so it’s perhaps no surprise that Dasha Yahknis, Nell Karpinski and Caroline Chivily–respectively first, second and third singles for VHS–were all named first team in that division. Verona’s doubles duo of Gabby Brehne and Allie Vaccaro was named second team, while fellow doubles players Lexi Duhaney and Michelle Lima were given an honorable mention nod.

Yahknis, who is only a freshman, was named second team in the All-Group 1 honors, while Brehne and Duhaney got third team honors.

The paper’s final rankings of North Jersey, Section 2 Group 1 had Verona as the #3 team, behind Glen Ridge and top-ranked New Providence. That might strike some folks as odd since Verona again went all the way to finals this year, falling to New Providence 3-2.
