The Verona Sports Boosters would like to congratulate Jessica Nagy as the Girls Senior Athlete of the Week.
Jess says the greatest memory of her Verona High School soccer career actually occurred this season, as the girls advanced to the state sectional finals, eventually bowing to a tough Glen Ridge team 1-0. She said this season is what she and her teammates dreamt about as freshmen. The team concluded the season with an impressive 14-8 record.
Asked about her favorite teacher, Jess said Dr. Janan Wehbeh, the AP chemistry teacher. She feels Dr. Wehbeh is extremely challenging, but really cares about her students and wants them all to succeed. Jess’s favorite food is mint chocolate chip ice cream, and she loves listening to Taylor Swift and country music.
She has a dog named Scrappy who is Yorkie-Schnauzer mix and loves ski weekends in upstate New York.
When asked who she would choose to have dinner with, Jess said Marie Curie, the first woman to win the Nobel Prize, the first woman to win it twice, and the only woman to win it in two different fields. Jess, who was recently honored for her work on behalf of Hearts of Hope, a national organization dedicated to raising the spirits of people in need, finds Curie to be inspirational.
Next year, Jess plans to major in biomedical engineering and eventually attend medical school. Her ultimate goal is to be a pediatric oncologist. The Verona Sports Boosters would like to wish Jess luck in attaining all of her goals.
During the 2014-2015 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters will recognize a different male and female senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
