WINGS, the cancer support group for women, will present “The Healing Kitchen” on Thursday, November 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Verona Community Center. The event’s facilitator is Sally Owens.
Sally has been innovative in the kitchen-not always by choice due to dairy allergy, but when she went vegan she quickly learned it was her entire lifestyle that was transformed, not merely her diet. When her mother passed away from cancer, that prompted her to go forward with her nutritional endeavors. The passion, heightened awareness, and artistry born out of her relationship with food unexpectedly flowed into every dimension of her life.
Sally has a commitment to share her discoveries with anyone interested in cultivating a better understanding of the intricate relationship between food, body and lifestyle.
A graduate of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and New York’s Natural Gourmet Institute, Sally’s professional experience is extensive. She was executive chef and now creative director at the Samford Inn’s premiere Ravens’ Vegan Restaurant in Mendocino, Calif., and assisted with vegan meal production for Lawrence Craig Caterers. She is a vegan food representative and culinary coordinator for Williams-Sonoma. Sally also produces pop-up dinners in Montclair and presents gourmet vegan gluten-free demonstrations regularly.
