It was Verona-Verona-Verona-Verona for nearly all four quarters when the Verona High School football team took on Newark’s West Side High on Saturday.
Senior Frank Ferrari continued his scoring streak, taking the ball in twice himself and throwing for two more. Ferrari now averages 112 rushing yards per game, the best of his high school career.
Matt Intili got across the goal line twice, for a total of 68 yards on the afternoon. Junior Mark Riggio was right behind with 64 yards, the product of eight carries that included a TD. [CORRECTION: Riggio was the player who scored twice in the game.]
Verona, which opened the season with a 48-16 win over Newark East Side, faces Newark’s powerhouse team, Shabazz High School, on Saturday at home.
