Verona Mayor Bob Manley declared Oct. 12-18 “Verona Fights Hunger Week” as the Junior Woman’s Club of Verona kicked off the town-wide food drive at Kings Food Market on Sunday.

During a proclamation ceremony, Manley acknowledged the hard work and coordination of the Verona Juniors. The mayor was joined by Christine McGrath and Erika Grothues, Verona Fights Hunger Week co-chairs; Connie Pifher, Verona’s Health & Social Services Program Coordinator; Cheryl Good, Manager, Community Relations for Kings Food Market; Anthony SanFilippo, Store Manager of Kings in Verona; Frank Ricciardi, President of the Verona Lions Club; and several other members of the Junior Woman’s Club of Verona, Lions Club and Girl Scouts.

On Sunday alone, the Juniors collected more than 30 bags of food and $86 in donations for the Human Needs Food Pantry in Montclair. In addition, Kings of Verona pledged to donate 5% of every purchase that day.

Verona Fights Hunger Week will conclude on Saturday, Oct. 18, with a celebration at Verona Town Hall from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
