Chris Sweeney scored an upset at the Essex County Track & Field Championships in Montclair on Saturday, winning the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.4. The performance was a personal best for the senior, and the second fastest 400m hurdles time in Verona High School history. Sweeney enters the state Sectional Championships this week as the number one seed in the 400m hurdles.

An hour after that win, Sweeney returned to the track to get fourth place in the 400m run with a 51.01 clocking. Sarah Conboy placed fourth in the girls 400m hurdles with a time of 1:09 and Jasmine Okafor placed sixth in discus with a throw of 88′.

If you want to see Sweeney in action, the Star Ledger has a great shot of him in the slideshow here.
