Duffers of Verona, fair warning: You might want to read something else this morning. Because when you see the scores that one Verona High School senior has been getting on the links this season, you might be driven to put your clubs in the closet. Or cry. Or both.

Those stats belong to Bobby Leblein, a four-year starter on the VHS golf team who is the kind of player who lives golf just about every minute of the day. In fact, he’s been doing just that since the age of four, which is when he started playing.
While some athletes thrive on a sport that sends a team to the field, Leblein will tell you that he loves playing golf because it’s just him against the course. The VHS golf team plays most of its games at the Montclair Country Club close to home, but Leblein–who has a 4.3 handicap thank you very much–counts the course at the Plainfield Country Club in Woodbridge as his favorite. If it isn’t already obvious, this long-time leader of the Verona High School golf program is the Verona Sports Boosters Senior Athlete of the Week.
During the 2013-2014 school year, the Verona Sports Boosters recognizes a different senior athlete at Verona High School every week. The Boosters support male and female athletes in all VHS sports through a variety of fundraisers and recognition events.
