Krojana Selimi, a junior at Verona High School, is working on her Girl Scout Gold Award project. It is called “A Step Ahead” and it involves helping high school and college students, and their parents, prepare for situations that the young people will encounter in their lives.
As part of this, Selimi has organized five free workshops that will be held at Verona High School on Thursday, May 1, from 7 to 9 p.m.: Finding an apartment, car and home insurance, banking essentials, financial aid, and teen interview skills.
Selimi is bringing in five experts to lead the workshops. Participants can pick two sessions to attend, and there will be pamphlets given out at the end of the workshop on each of the topics.
The workshops are free, but Selimi is asking interested students and their parents to register online. The deadline to register is April 30.
The Gold Award is the highest achievement in Girl Scouting, similar to Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts. It recognizes girls who demonstrate extraordinary leadership through projects in their communities, and beyond. Selimi belongs to Verona Girl Scout Troup 105.
