The Verona High School girls lacrosse team lost to Ramapo High School yesterday in driving rain, but the game was still a major milestone for the team. That’s because junior Jackie Brozyna took charge of the field despite the weather and scored her 100th lacrosse goal.
Brozyna started the week as the number three player on the Star Ledger’s rankings of Essex County’s girls lacrosse players, with 18 goals, six assists and 24 points so far this season. She’s had multiple points in every game this season except one: In Verona’s opener against Holy Angels, Brozyna scored as many goals by herself as the opponent’s team did together. In Friday’s match-up against Scotch Plains, she outscored that entire team. The junior had three goals and two assists in Monday’s 12-16 loss.
The VHS team is now 4-1 on the season. Brozyna and company will be back in play on Wednesday, when they travel to Fortunato Field to face Montclair High School.
