Garbage-Truck-Fire23A garbage truck burst into flames on Route 23 earlier this afternoon.

With the truck stopped near the gas stations at the Linden-Pompton-Cambridge intersection, the Verona Police Department shut down traffic from Mount Prospect to Cedar Grove for 45 minutes while the Verona Fire Department extinguished the blaze. There was no damage to nearby houses or the gas stations.

Verona Police Chief Doug Huber said it is not known what caused the truck to catch on fire.
