Well, there’s no word yet on whether school is on or off for Monday, but with winter storm Titan on the way later today, the folks in charge of high school sports are taking no chances.
Both the Verona High School boys and girls NJSIAA basketball playoffs have been moved from Monday afternoon to Tuesday. The girls will take on Waldwick High School at 5 p.m. on March 4 now, and the boys game against Park Ridge will start at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
In an odd twist, both Verona teams go into the state championships as the number 2 seeds, which appears to be a first in VHS basketball history. The VHS boys, who have a 16-5 record, are bracketed by Cresskill in the No. 1 slot and Cedar Grove at number 3, while the girls, who are 15-7 find themselves between Midland Park and Saddle Brook.
The National Weather Service expects Titan to arrive in our area around 6 p.m. Sunday night, and bring 3 to 6 inches of snow, down considerably from the foot of powder that had been predicted. The Jersey Shore is expected to get 5 to 8 inches.
