Yeates Heads To Track Sectionals As No. 1 Seed

Chris-YeatesSophomore Chris Yeates has quietly become one of the emerging sprinters in Essex County this winter track season.

After getting stronger during each of the Verona High School winter track team’s early Invitational meets, Yeates had a breakout first place performance at the Bill Reid Invitational Meet on January 16, with a 6.6 finish in the 55m.

Then at the Essex County Championships this past Saturday, Yeates finished fifth in the 55m dash with a 6.74 performance in a field of 60, comprised of mostly upperclassmen. Yeates also finished eighth in the 200m, running 24.06 in a field of 65 athletes.

Yeates will compete on Sunday at the State Sectional Championships as the number one seed in the 55m dash. He will also be on VHS’ 4 x 400m relay at this meet.
