Lance Corporal Vincent J. Camerota should be coming home today, having completed the enlistment in the U.S. Marines that he began in November 2009.
Camerota was deployed to Afghanistan in January 2011, and was awarded the Good Conduct medal in October 2012.
Camerota had been fascinated with the Marines since childhood, but was almost unable to join the Corps after a fight cost him the ability to graduate Verona High School with the class of 2008. “I am thankful every day,” Camerota wrote his officers recently, “that, in a moment of clarity, I made the smart decision to be [a] better [person] and I am thankful to the Marines for giving me a chance to be a better man.”
Camerota may now be headed to a career in law enforcement. He has taken and passed the test to join the Port Authority police.
Congratulations and welcome home, Vinnie. Thank you for your service.
