On Saturday, Cianna Elizabeth Jiahui Winkler, daughter of Wayne and Beverly Winkler of Verona, was crowned Miss New Jersey Junior High School 2014. Winkler will represent New Jersey at the national Miss Collegiate America Pageant in Orlando next summer.
Winkler is an eighth grade honor roll student at H. B. Whitehorne Middle School and is a competitive dancer at For Dancers Only in Little Falls. She is active in the community both at First Presbyterian Church and as a member of Verona Girl Scout Troop 121. Prior to the pageant, Winkler submitted her resume to the state director. During the pageant the contestants were judged on several criteria – interviews with the judges 40%, evening gown 40% and fun fashion 20%.
Tracey Jamison, director of the state pageant said, “I am quite pleased with the young ladies the judges chose to represent New Jersey at the Junior High, High School and College level. Throughout the weekend the contestants exhibited poise, charm and intelligence. I truly believe Cianna and the other New Jersey young ladies have a chance to win the national title and scholarship prize.”
During the year, Winkler will have the opportunity to make appearances and volunteer in our community and across New Jersey. Additionally, this pageant’s philanthropy is “The Crown CARES” standing for “Create a Respectful Environment in Schools.” Winkler will be involved in programs focused on preventing bullying. She also has an interest in addressing child homelessness across the state and will be working with her youth minister this year to raise awareness.
