Julianne Boyle, a student at the University of Delaware, is running a blood drive this summer with New Jersey Blood Services. I
The drive will be held at the Commonwealth Club, 26 Northview Avenue in Montclair, on Tuesday July 9, from 2 to 8 p.m. “I am going to be a junior in the fall at the University of Delaware,” says Boyle, “and I believe that donating blood is a great way to give back to the community.”
Boyle stresses that donating during the summer is critical since the blood supply has decreased with people on vacation and high schools and colleges out of session. “By donating, you are helping to ensure an adequate blood supply for patients who may need it,” she adds.
To give blood, you must be in generally good health, meet weight criteria, and be at least 17 years of age or 16 years of age with parental consent. Donors will have the option of giving an Alyx blood donation at this drive as well. (The Alyx technology collects double the amount of red blood of a regular whole blood donation.) On the day of the blood drive, please remember to bring ID and have plenty to eat and drink.
In addition, by donating at this blood drive you will be entered into a raffle, along with other New Jersey Blood Services donors, to win a pair of tickets to the 2014 Super Bowl.
If you would like to schedule a time to donate, you can e-mail her. If you have questions about whether or not you are eligible to donate, you can call 1-800-933-2566.
