MyVeronaNJ-Senior-Care-SlideUnited Way of Northern New Jersey‘s Caregivers Coalition is developing a free educational video series designed to help unpaid family caregivers navigate the challenges of caring for an aging loved one.

The first video is called Caregiving 101 — Where to Start, and it features Verona native Stacey Shelter Joyce, who is now a professional geriatric care manager. It reviews important basics for caregivers of aging loved ones, including:

• Coping with caregiver stress
• Assessing a loved one’s needs
• Organizing important papers
• Managing medications and health histories
• Safety in the home
• Working effectively with other family members

To get your free copy, you can email Deborah Day or call 973.746.4040, x209. You can also view the video online. The video is the first of a 12-part, comprehensive resource for caregivers, which will be released quarterly for the next three years.

The United Way Caregivers Coalition works to ensure that all caregivers have access to the resources, services, education, and other support needed to sustain them as caregivers. It holds a free meeting open to the caregivers of seniors on the second Tuesday of the month from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Verona Community Center. The next one is Tuesday, June 11, and you can learn more about it here.
