Monday is Memorial Day, and Verona will mark it with a parade along Bloomfield Avenue and wreath-laying ceremonies in front of Town Hall.
If you are with one of the groups marching in the parade, you need to be at Everett Field at 9:30 a.m.
The marchers will step off at 10 a.m., and head west on Bloomfield Avenue toward the center of town. The distance isn’t very great, so expect the services at Town Hall to begin around 10:30.
As is past years, Verona will honor its veterans with the Verona Distinguished Service Medal. There will be a reading of the names of all Veronans who died in service to their country, and Verona’s scout troops will put wreaths and flags at the two memorials on the lawn in front of H.B. Whitehorne Middle School.
You can read about all of Verona’s heroes from the Civil War through the Vietnam War on this Web site, Verona Heroes.
