Verona’s Town Council election was very close, and town and county election officials have been going through a process to make the results official.
That means adding the mail-in votes to the votes at the machines and the so-called provisional ballots. A provisional ballot happens when someone shows up to vote, but their name is not in the voter book. They are allowed to vote, but the ballot is held aside until it can be determined if the person has the right to vote.
Nine provisional ballots were cast in Tuesday’s election, and two have already been determined to be invalid. The other seven will be examined in the Essex County Board of Elections in Newark tomorrow at 4 p.m.
As of Tuesday night, the tallies for absentee and machine ballots were:
Kevin Ryan: 1,153
Jay Sniatkowski: 1,037
Bob Manley: 1,009
Rich Williamson: 1,008
Al DeOld: 962
Alex Roman: 785
Teena Schwartz: 544
