The game was hard edged and hard played, but in the end, Montclair High School edged past the Verona High School girls lacrosse team for a 17-15 win on Centennial Field.
As has been the case all season, scoring was spread across the Hillbilly offense–and across grades. Lauren Ednie, a junior, led Verona with four goals and three assists, while sophomores Jackie Brozyna and Emilia Frizzi had three apiece for Verona. Brozyna also had two assists. Julia Albert was the lead scorer for Montclair with four goals.
Verona is now 7-7 on the season. The girls take on Livingston High School at home on Wednesday.
In other sports news, the Hillbilly baseball team traveled to Orange and came home victories. Orange got on the scoreboard first, but Verona took the lead in the second inning and ran with it to a 12-2 win.
Luke Sniatkowski had 3 hits, 3 RBIs and a triple, and Tom Denicola was also 3-for-3. Junior Luke Weiss connected for a homer and two RBIs. Chris Guida split the pitching duties with Matt McKeown and had four strikeouts to his credit.
