Tosh-CGVerona and Cedar Grove met on a neutral baseball field last night, but their play was anything but disinterested.

Hillbilly Jon Tosh dominated the rivalry game from the mound, pitching a three-hitter over six innings that netted only one run for the Panthers, from three-sport senior Vin Cordasco.CG-Safe

Verona senior Dean DeNicola owned the plate, delivering a run and a double in his three times at bat, sending two Verona players home. PJ Lombardi also was 2-for-3 and Chris Guida had an RBI. Luke Sniatkowski pitched a scoreless 7th inning that capped the 3-1 win before a crowd of about 800 people. The fundraiser game at Yogi Berra Stadium in Little Falls also included the usual introduction of the “future stars” from both Verona and Cedar Grove, to a roar of approval from the crowd. Tosh and DeNicola were named the game’s MVPs.

Verona is now 5-9. The boys face a 12-2 Caldwell team at home this afternoon.Sniatkowski-CG
